PSV/PCV (CAT D) Before you can get on with your PCV bus driver training you will need to hold a provisional PCV (CAT D) licence. The first job is to have a medical. You can have your medical at our training centre on a Saturday morning at our Stanton Hill centre. The fee is £90 included in our Starter Pack. The forms you will need will be waiting for you when you arrive. If you are going to use your own doctor, simply call our Customer Support Team and they will send you the forms. If you need a medical locally, the Customer Support Team will be happy to organise this for you.
Either way, the medical form, licence application and car licence then go to Swansea for your provisional entitlement to be added. You will normally receive your CAT D provisional licence within a few days. Once you have your licence, call us immediately to arrange your theory training and theory test. The training takes place at our purpose built, climate controlled training centre and the pass rate for those following this route is close to 100%. The theory test will be arranged at a DVSA test centre convenient to you. This can be anywhere in the UK.
The “Starter Pack” includes your medical, online theory training, classroom theory training and both theory tests. In addition, you will receive half day classroom sessions in Mod 2 and Introduction to Drivers’ Hours and Tachos. Total cost of the whole package is £250– a massive saving . Your bus driver training course will normally be arranged to start a couple of weeks after your theory test. The course is normally 4 days duration with the test taken during the fifth day. Subject to availability, the course can be completed by training all day Saturday and Sunday with the test on Monday. If you live more than 70 miles from our centre, we will provide accommodation completely free of charge for the duration of your practical training.
All our driver training is conducted on a 1 to 1 basis so you get individual tuition with no cab sharing. Whilst this is not as profitable for us, it is the best way for you to learn as you get 100% attention.
Practical PCV tests are taken at our own test centre at Stanton Hill. We had the very first private test centre in the UK; it has to be better to train and test here rather than a busy city. You will practice the reversing exercise on exactly the same area of concrete that you’ll take your test on. We have a large number of pre-booked tests to minimise waiting time.
We offer a fully automatic bus – as used by Stagecoach – for training. Training and passing your test on an automatic still gives you a full manual bus licence provided you already hold a full manual car licence. Having passed your driving test on this vehicle, your licence will entitle you to drive any bus or coach without restriction (apart from larger trailers).
To drive professionally you will also need driver CPC. We are happy to organise this for you and we have our own Mod 4 examiner on staff to eliminate waiting times.
We are fortunate to have ex coach and bus drivers on our staff who have been teaching for many years. You can benefit from our experience. All are registered with NVDIR and receive continual updating training.
Not all training is the same; we strongly suggest you look around at different trainers and see the differences. Call in any time between 7:30 – 17:30 Monday to Friday and a member of our team will be pleased to show you around. Our training vehicle is equipped with dual controls for your comfort and safety.
We have many thousands of happy satisfied customers. Why not add to this number?
